Phishing/Spoofing Campaigns - Ongoing

The UNM IT Customer Support Service Desk and the UNM Information Security & Privacy Office (ISPO) have received many reports of fraudulent/phishing emails sent to UNM community members.
Extortion Emails
There does not appear to be any evidence of automatic downloads, malware, or other malicious software associated with the email samples provided. Any credentials (usernames, passwords, etc.) associated with these emails appear to have been the result of high-profile data breaches of parties external to UNM.

Impersonation Emails
All email accounts associated with the impersonation attempts have been hosted by third-parties external to UNM. As with the extortion emails referenced above, there does not appear to be any indication of compromised UNM accounts associated with these types phishing/spoofing campaigns. Additionally, there is no evidence automatic downloads, malware, or other malicious software associated with the email samples provided.

What you can do
UNM community members are encouraged to report suspicious activity to the University Information Security & Privacy Office at the address security@unm.edu. Where possible, ISPO staff encourage users to submit samples ‘as an attachment’ so the full message headers can be analyzed. Spam:
These messages typically have one or more of the following attributes/characteristics:
- The messages are unsolicited and are sent from unfamiliar addresses
- Contain ‘[SPAM?? #%]’ in the subject line
- Contain advertising in the message body
What you should do: Forward the Spam sample (as an attachment) to spamdrop@unm.edu
Phishing:
These messages typically have one or more of the following attributes/characteristics:
- The messages are unsolicited and are sent from unfamiliar addresses
- The message body encourages you to take any action such as responding to the original message or clicking a link, or contains otherwise suspicious text
What you should do: Forward the Phishing sample (as an attachment) to security@unm.edu

UNM School of Law Outages 7/30

The University of New Mexico has identified that there was an intrusion into the IT environment at the UNM School of Law on June 27. School of Law email and file-sharing services were affected. Based on current findings we believe the issue is isolated to the School of Law and isn’t linked to other systems at UNM.
School of Law Students, Faculty and Staff should use their @unm email account until further notice and access email at lobomail.unm.edu.
If you need assistance accessing your @unm email account, please contact the UNM IT Service Desk at 277-5757.
A support email lawhelpdesk@unm.edu has been set up for those in need of any additional Law School IT support services.
The School of Law’s IT department and UNM’s central IT team are working together to restore services.
Security Maintenance on Horizon Kiosk (3/4/2021 - 3/31/2021)

To further secure our Horizon Public Kiosk Desktop Environment, IT will make security changes that will impact the Horizon Kiosk Desktops in 32 locations across campus between 3/4/2021 and 3/31/2021. Service outage is not expected.
Skype for Business Online retires July 31, 2021

As Microsoft Teams has become the core communications client for Microsoft 365, the Skype for Business Online service will retire July 31, 2021. On that date, access to Skype for Business will end.
Skype users - please see Fastinfo 7834 for information on how to switch to Teams only mode.
Continuation of LoboCloud Web Portal work through 3/5/2021

Continuing Tuesday, 3/2/2021, IT Platforms VIS will be migrating the virtual appliance and servers of the vRealize Automation LoboCloud Web Portal. Until work is complete, the https://lobocloud.unm.edu/vac/org/UNMHosted web portal will be unavailable.
vRA associated vApp stack that support the service will begin migration into the software defined data center.
During the migration, the web based application will be unavailable. Requesting new VMs, destroying old VMS, accessing the console, powering off, on, cycling, or take snapshots of any VM through the portal for Lobocloud users will be unavailable during this time.
The migration will only affect the web portal, but will NOT impact direct VM access (RDP/SSH) or VM management through vCenter during the outage. Any need to power off, on, cycle, or take snapshots of any current VM can be supported by a Service Request through Help.UNM.
LoboCloud-AllUsers will be notified once the work has been completed
Retire cfus1d.unm.edu server

All coldfusion Applications have been moved to the New server except csvgrades which could not be migrated and has been approve to remove until a future replacement is projected to be in place.
Intermittent connectivity issues with ePrint

ePrint is having sporadic connectivity issues where it will sometimes not load correctly. IT Operations is investigating and working to resolve the issue.
Microsoft Edge Legacy browser support ends, 3/9/2021

The Microsoft Edge Legacy browser application support will end on March 9, 2021. After support ends, Microsoft Edge Legacy will not receive new security updates.
The easiest way to identify the Edge Legacy browser vs. the New Edge browser is by their icons:

The new Microsoft Edge will be available as part of an upcoming Windows 10 cumulative monthly security update (April 13, 2021). When this update is applied to your devices, the new Microsoft Edge will be installed and the out of support Microsoft Edge Legacy will be REMOVED.

Digital and Analog Phone Line Service Migration Request for UNMH Tower Construction Project

Period: 3/13/21 7:00 am - 3/20/21 7:00 pm
On March 13, 2021 and March 20, 2021 from 7:00 am to 7:00 pm digital and analog phone services will be intermittently affected in lieu of the UNMH Tower construction project. During this time VOIP will not be affected.
Should you require service to be re-routed during these times, please contact IT CSS at 277.5757. If your digital and analog phone line experience issues post this service maintenance, please also contact IT CSS (phone number above) and/or inform building IT personnel or designated IT officer in your area.
